Porcelain Veneers
In just two visits you can have the smile you’ve always wanted. Dr. (Sherry) can enhance your smile with beautiful porcelain veneers. Veneers are made of porcelain that is custom fabricated by a dental laboratory to fit over your teeth with minimal tooth preparation. The advantage to veneers is that you can correct the shade, size and shape of your existing teeth in just two visits. In most cases we can perform “instant orthodontics” using veneers to correct rotated, misaligned and crowded teeth.
Veneers can be used to close gaps and permanently change the color of stained teeth, even due to tetracycline staining. Veneers are a great choice when considering a rapid change to your smile.
Metal Free Crowns and Bridges
Have you ever seen someone smile and then you notice a black line right at the gum line of the person you’re talking to and wondered what it was? Well, that black line is the margin of a crown that has metal under the tooth-colored porcelain. Dentistry has come a long way and today if a patient needs to correct a broken or chipped tooth they don’t have to suffer the embarrassment of having the metal show from under their crown. A metal free crown is one that is made entirely of porcelain and can be custom matched to your existing teeth without any margins showing.
Although an all ceramic crown/bridge may not be right in every situation, in most cases we can use this new type of full coverage crown to restore teeth.
Mercury Free Tooth colored filling
Say goodbye to the days of dark, silver fillings in your teeth. Today, you have a new and improved choice in materials to restore teeth with small to moderate sized tooth decay. Composite fillings are a beautiful more natural looking alternative to mercury/silver fillings. Composite fillings are tooth colored and come in different shades that can be matched to your teeth. Unlike amalgam (silver fillings), composite fillings are bonded to your teeth and require less tooth preparation allowing for a more conservative restoration.
Implants
It can be very difficult to accept the fact that a tooth is lost in an accident or needs to be removed due to severe decay or infection. Fortunately, implants offer a permanent solution for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Implants are made of titanium and look similar to a conventional screw. A surgeon places the implant below the gums and monitors it over several weeks for integration of the implant with the bone in the jaws. Once integration and fusion with the jaws is complete, the implant is uncovered and a crown is placed over it. Implants are a very natural and esthetic way to replace one or several teeth and can be used to provide more stability under dentures or partials.
Claspless Partial and Dentures
Removable partials are an effective way of replacing multiple teeth with few appointments. Traditionally, partials were made with metal clasps wrapped around the teeth for retention. Today, with advanced laboratory techniques and new materials, Dr. (Sherry) can make cosmetic partials without the bulky metal clasps. Removable partial Dentures are still a very efficient way to replace teeth and maintain chewing function without compromising esthetics.

Children’s Dentistry
A child’s first dental visit is the most important one. Many children remember their first visit for the rest of their lives. Our doctor and staff are trained to make children as comfortable as possible while treating their dental needs. It is very important for parents to take their children to the dentist as soon as their first few teeth erupt. Primary or baby teeth need to be cleaned to prevent decay. Primary teeth can initially be cleaned with a gauze to wipe the surfaces of the teeth. Infants should not be given a bottle (filled with milk, juice or other sweetened liquid) at night without cleaning the teeth either with a toothbrush or gauze. Otherwise, this can lead to baby bottle syndrome and can lead to multiple decayed teeth needing restorations. All children should see a dentist at least by age 3 to become familiar with the dental office and learn how to brush and floss their teeth by themselves. Since “baby teeth” have thinner enamel, they are more prone to decay and need additional attention. Although some children may not complain of sensitivity or pain, they may have decay on their primary teeth, and if left untreated the permanent teeth may be affected. We look forward to seeing the whole family in our office!
Root Canal Therapy
Decades ago, having a toothache meant having the tooth extracted. Today, most teeth with infected nerve tissue can be saved by performing a root canal. Unfortunately, root canals have a bad reputation for causing discomfort. In most instances, root canal therapy does not need to be painful. Root canals need to be done when decay has infected the nerve and the nerve needs to be removed. Root canal therapy can usually be done in 1 visit, followed by a crown to maintain the tooth’s integrity. Discomfort may be the result of a larger infection involving the nerve and surrounding bone of the root. For this reason, you should always get decayed teeth restored as soon as they are diagnosed to avoid advancement of the decay to the nerve and to avoid the need for a root canal.
Gum Treatment without surgery
Periodontal diseases are classified according to the severity of the disease. The two major stages are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is a milder and reversible form of periodontal disease that only affects the gums. Gingivitis may lead to more serious, destructive forms of periodontal disease called periodontitis. If caught early, periodontal disease can be treated without surgery. Deep pockets can develop if proper oral hygiene is not done at home. Pockets develop between the tooth and the gums when plaque is not routinely cleaned between the teeth. High risk patients include smokers, diabetics, patients on chronic steroids, pregnant women, and patients with failing or poor-fitting restorations. Root planing can be performed with sonic technology followed by proper maintenance to avoid the need for surgical intervention.
Good oral hygiene at home is essential to help keep periodontal disease from becoming more serious or recurring. You don’t have to lose teeth to periodontal disease. Brush, clean between your teeth, eat a balanced diet, and schedule regular dental visits for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Digital x-rays -80% less radiation
Technology has really improved the way dentists can view and diagnose tooth decay. In addition, digital radiographs have dramatically decreased patient exposure to x-rays, as much as 80-90% less radiation to the patient. Unlike the days of conventional film processing, digital radiographs allow the dentist to view the image immediately and start treatment without having to wait for the film to be developed. This decreases the time the patient spends waiting in the chair until they find out what is causing their toothache. Both the dentist and patient benefit from this faster viewing of the image. Unlike conventional film images that have to be stored in the patient file and hope that they don’t get lost, digital radiographs can be stored on a computer and saved to avoid loss and/or theft.
With all the recent talk about global warming and environmental pollution, you’ll be glad to know that at Sierra Dental Care we use digital radiographs and do our part to avoid further pollution by eliminating the hazardous chemicals used to develop film. What do you know, a green dental office is the wave of the future!
